The Role: Graduate Trainee Recruitment Consultant

You never really have the same day twice in the life of a recruitment consultant. It is extremely varied and challenging but hugely rewarding. You have to be resilient, self-motivated and capable of driving yourself to success.

A typical day would include networking on the phone, running client vacancies where you would source and screen high quality candidates and creating shortlists. Once you are confident and an expert in our industry, you will liaise with clients all over the world. Once established, you will be expected to fly out to conduct face-to-face meetings in order to win searches or create new client relationships.

To be successful and effective in your role, it would be helpful to have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Cold calling
  •  Business development
  •  Working in a target driven environment
  •  Relationship building
  •  6 months+ experience in a related sales or recruitment role

Core Skills:

The core skills of a Recruitment Consultant are vital to achieve success in the first 6-12 months. You will need to have a competitive nature, drive, a strong sense of self-motivation and excellent communication skills. A career in recruitment is heavily target based and can be highly pressurised when bringing on new business and meeting deadlines, so a cool head & a sense of humour is needed. Discretion, an ability to multitask and a capability to manage a sometimes-complicated workload are also key attributes of the most successful recruiters. The work you put in directly impacts the rewards you will receive.
